Accepting our bodies, crackling joints and all

First, I’m excited to announce my new massage referral program in Oklahoma City!

If you're an existing client of mine and you refer a new client to me, not only will THEY get the 20% off new client discount… But if they drop YOUR name when they book, YOU will get 10% off YOUR  next session!

Send your pals to relieve some chronic tension and book their own introductory massage session in Oklahoma City, using their new-client discount, on my massage booking page.

This will apply for every new client you refer! Help grow the Wuji Body by Angel massage therapy community in Oklahoma City and reap the rewards!

And, now on to a word about accepting our bodies, cracking joints and all…

One of my tai chi students asked me last week, "Should I be worried if one of my joints is cracking or popping when I move it?"

I asked her if there was any pain, discomfort, or any limited range of motion to go with it. She said no, so I told her it wasn't a problem at all.

If you're curious, here's an article from Cleveland Clinic with the science about joint noises and why they're not a problem.

It's not the first time I've been asked a question like this, though. It could be about loud joints, the shape of a bone, or something else someone finds peculiar about their body.

It made me think about why people become so worried about aspects of their bodies like this, though. Absent the judgment of other people, they have no reason to be thought of as problems at all.

Commercial media loves to problematize the body and make us feel insecure. Products are sold to us that promise to fix something about us that we're told is unattractive or unhealthy.

Often, we're told that something we've been doing our whole lives with no issue is actually slowly but surely killing us!

One example is the panic over "text neck" over the last decade. Media says it’s going to doom the younger generation to become permanent hunchbacks. People have bent over books for centuries already!

We saw a wave of corrective devices and exercise programs that promised to correct this. But now, as the linked article above says, media outlets are finally admitting the issue was overhyped!

Our bodies are a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for.

Next time you think there is something physically wrong with you, before you rush to buy something, just ask yourself those two questions:

1) Does it hurt?

2) Does it interfere with me living my life?

If the answer to even just one of those is "yes," then sure, investigate your options and consult professionals like myself (and come get a massage at my massage clinic in Oklahoma City).

If the answer to BOTH of those questions is "no," then someone is likely just trying to make a buck off of your insecurity.

The human body is a resilient and beautiful thing.

The more you can resist people trying to tell you that you’re fragile and damaged, the happier you’ll be in your own skin.

Come experience some joy and freedom by booking an individualized massage session with me today — bonus, it’s a great way to beat the heat!
